John Monroe is Editor-in-Chief of Federal Computer Week, where he is responsible for developing multimedia projects and other unique online content. He has covered the government IT market for more than a decade. John also served as editor of FCW Media Group's civic.com, a monthly magazine covering the state and local government IT market.
As a reporter at Federal Computer Week, John covered nearly every sector of the federal IT community. He followed the Federal Aviation Administration's multibillion-dollar initiative to modernize the nation's air traffic control system. He also helped track the Defense Department's early efforts to bring technology to the battlefield. As Federal Computer Week's technology editor, John directed Federal Computer Week's coverage of the federal IT industry and emerging technology trends.
During his tenure as editor, the publication has earned numerous journalism honors, including 2004 gold and silver awards for best government coverage from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). Since 2000, Federal Computer Week has earned nine national and thirteen regional awards ASBPE. The magazine also won a Maggie award for best news story/trade in 2004.
John is a frequent speaker and moderator at conferences in the federal market. He also has been an e-government guest on National Public Radio's show hosted by Kojo Nnamdi and has discussed homeland security and privacy on CNN's Next@CNN.
