Event Overview

A conflict is growing in the federal IT space – one that pits traditional agency IT management against the influx of consumer technologies from employees eager to bring their own smartphones and tablets to work. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) recently threw its hat in the ring by announcing a mobile strategy allowing employees to bring their own devices to work to reduce operational costs, increase productivity, and improve customer service. The move reflects Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel’s call for agencies to focus on the fundamentals, ensure security and privacy concerns are addressed, and incorporate shared-first and future-first principles. With bring your own device (BYOD), agencies can reduce the burden of managing the vast numbers of diverse computing devices, thereby increasing ROI across the entire agency. But to do so, agencies will have to knock out the security and management issues inherent in opening their systems to employee-owned devices. A key to overcoming these challenges and achieving efficiency gains will be the deployment of desktop virtualization.

By accessing all applications and data from the datacenter, rather than from the device, desktop virtualization enables agencies to control IT costs while maximizing security. Data access on any personal device can be kept as secure as on-premise PCs through policy-based access controls, encrypted data access and remote data-wiping capabilities. This allows agencies to deliver the right desktop to any device in any location, whether that’s a warfighter on the battlefield, a field representative with the Census bureau or a doctor with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
You will learn:

  • How the consumerization of IT is driving BYOD and its impact on government commodity IT acquisition
  • The crucial role desktop virtualization plays in enabling BYOD
  • How agencies ensure compliance standards are met through comprehensive monitoring tools
  • How agencies maintain control when they don’t own the device
  • Keeping data secure – from the datacenter to the device

Please join dozens of senior government executives, IT administrators and security professionals from across federal civilian and defense agencies to discuss the challenges, best practices and strategies to implement and secure bring your own device (BYOD) throughout government. This virtual seminar is available from the convenience of your desktop - Register today!
