Rendell Jones

Acting Deputy Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

Rendell Jones was appointed Acting Deputy Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Dec. 23, 2013. Prior to this appointment Mr. Jones served since 2010 as Associate Director of the Management Directorate, where he oversaw the operations of USCIS’s offices of Administration, the Chief Financial Officer, the Chief Information Officer, Equal Opportunity and Inclusion, Human Capital and Training, Intake and Document Production, and Security and Integrity.

In March 2006, Mr. Jones became USCIS’s first Chief Financial Officer (CFO), accepting responsibility for all agency activities related to budget, finance and accounting, Lockbox operations, resource management, and annual planning. When he became CFO, USCIS employed approximately 10,000 people and operated within a $2.5-billion annual budget.

Before joining USCIS, Mr. Jones served at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as Deputy Budget Director. In that post, he directed the Budget Office’s management and oversight of budget formulation and execution, as well as related financial planning processes for the Department’s $42-billion annual budget. Mr. Jones also was the Department’s lead executive on appropriations issues and its principal liaison with the Committees on Appropriations of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

Mr. Jones began his federal service with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in 1996 as a Presidential Management Intern. He held various budgeting positions with DOJ’s Budget Staff, and served as an Appropriations Liaison Officer with the Justice Management Division. Mr. Jones also spent one year with DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.
