Tom McAndrew

Executive Vice President, Labs and Public Sector, Coalfire

Tom McAndrew is the EVP at Coalfire. During his time at Coalfire he has been responsible for more than 1,000 IT Assessments annually. He has worked extensively across the government, DoD, IC, financial institutions, service providers, government, retail, military, software providers, healthcare, and application developers.

Tom is the National Practice Leader of Cloud Assessments and during his career he has conducted assessments or provided strategic guidance for leading cloud providers such as Oracle, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, CenturyLink and Lockheed Martin. He has published several papers on security and compliance in the Cloud. Under his leadership, Coalfire has grown to become the largest assessor in the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) and the second Cloud assessor in the Payment Card Industry (PCI) of Service Providers and Applications.

Tom is a frequent speaker and has presented at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), VMWorld, the Information Systems Audit and Controls Association (ISACA), the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Payment Card Industry (PCI).

In addition to his commercial experience, he has supported a variety of federal organizations such as the U.S. Navy, the Space and Naval Warfare Command (SPAWAR), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA), and the Intelligence Community (IC). He is an officer in the Naval Reserve with the Office of Naval Research (ONR), focusing on cloud computing and emerging technology for the Marine Corps. He is the three time President of the Seattle chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Controls Association (ISACA).

He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, holds an MBA from the University of Washington, a Master of Science in Information Technology –Information Assurance from the University of Maryland, and a Master’s Certificate in Space Systems from the Naval Post Graduate School (NPS).
