Dr. Gabe Soumakian


Superintendent, Oxnard Union High School District

Dr. Gabe Soumakian is the Superintendent of the Oxnard Union High School District that serves 16,000 students located in Ventura County. Our vision is to "Redesign the High School Experience for the 21st Century Learner." The District is implementing 21st century learning and expanding to thirteen Linked Learning Academies. All six comprehensive high schools are fitted with solar equipment and the E-Rate funding has provided all schools with high density Wi-Fi access in every classroom. The District is transition to the Common Core State Standards by supporting a Professional Learning Community where teachers collaborate to promote 21st Century Learning using a variety of technology resources and a Learning Management System to connect students with their learning.

Dr. Gabe Soumakian earned his doctorate at Azusa Pacific University (APU) in Educational Leadership focusing on technology staff development and change leadership. He has taught at the doctoral level at APU in areas focusing on organizational change and building communities.

Dr. Soumakian has over thirty-five years of experience in education, to include 14 years of service at Loyola and St. John Bosco as a high school teacher and a coach. His public education experience has been primarily serving as a High School Principal and as an Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in Burbank USD prior to serving as Superintendent in the Oxnard Union High School District.
